Making efforts and then getting your desired result bring you overwhelming joy and happiness. But what if all went in vain, or if doing a lot of hard work doesn’t yield you fruitful results.

We know that it may sound very disappointing. But don’t you think you should figure out the critical factor that is keeping you from achieving your goal?

We do understand that there could be various factors such as web design, marketing campaign or overall approach contributing towards your success as long as search engine optimization is concerned.

It is therefore, essential for understanding how Google ranks your websites. What are the reasons that can be the cause for getting your website hold back by the google? We are essentially talking about Google sandbox. If you are well aware of the approach for dealing with Google Sandbox, the result could be far better than becoming frustrated for no good reason.

What is Google Sandbox?

Google Sandbox is a filter in place for new websites. It is incorporated to bar the websites from ranking, specifically those containing competitive keywords. This provision is placed to make site become more established and to allow Google to determine the overall content and purpose of the website.

Hundreds and thousands of websites are launched daily, and many of them are built in such a way that they try to manipulate the criteria set by Google ranking to get more clicks. Google want a website to be competent enough to rank amongst top websites. Therefore, Google Sandbox automatically filter out sites containing scam content.

Google Sandbox Existence – A Reality or Myth?

Many people seem to be arguing about the real existence of Google Sandbox. Although, Google has never confirmed the presence of Google Sandbox, however, there are a lot of reasons that are sufficient to make one believe that Google Sandbox does exist. It helps Google in search engine optimization.

Gossips around the world concerning the existence of Google Sandbox erupted recently after Gary Illyes tweeted and denied its existence.

We should understand that Google doesn’t need to confirm the existence of Google Sandbox, it should automatically be understood that sites containing useless content will never be ranked good by the Google until they believe them to be appropriate to display.

Google Sandbox And Its Impact On My Site?

It all depends on competitive keywords density. People try to use more competitive keywords to make their websites top ranked. Google Sandbox filters out low-quality sites but sometimes website containing rich content may also become the victim of Google Sandbox.

The most prominent impact is concerned with getting more or less clicks. When the Google Sandbox traps your website you are likely to get fewer clicks since your site is not going to appear as frequently as it could have appeared outside the Sandbox. It is quite apparent that if your website is not being displayed when people are searching for it, you are less likely to get as many clicks as you deserve. It may appear to you that you are not on the right track as far as selection of competitive keywords is concerned. This may not necessarily be the case though.

Besides following best practices concerning SEO rules, you may still get stuck in the Sandbox, and resultantly you will receive less traffic diverted towards your website as compared to your expectations.

Why Google Has A Filter In Place Such As Sandbox?

Google has Sandbox in place because your first impression means a lot to Google. When you launch a website, it appears in Google search until they are not sure about the quality of your site. Google may take some time speculating the way you dress up your website, as they want to make sure if your website really deserves to be ranked amongst top sites.

Many people deliberately use false tactics to ditch Google search engine to have more views. This leads to a bad quality of search for the public. Although, they may become successful in catching more traffic as compared to those website having rich and meaningful content. But this is not going to work for long.

Google knows it very well, and therefore to maintain the integrity of the search engine and make it more useful for people, Google filters out sites that have no or less meaningful resources. So there is no need to panic, once Google has identified your site being content rich, it will automatically start popping up your site in search engine and would rank you reasonably.

How Long Does the Google Sandbox Filter Last?

As a common thought, it is estimated that Google Sandbox lasts for a maximum of Six months.

The duration of its existence depends upon some of the following factors.

  • Content of your Website
  • Keywords Density
  • Your Website Niche

Google Sandbox targets different niches in different timings using different tactics. If your website falls into a category of following many black hat rules for SEO then it is likely that your website is going to stay in a Google Sandbox a bit longer as compared to websites practicing white hat SEO rules.

It is therefore always suggested to stop wasting your time in predicting how long your website is going to stay in the sandbox. Instead, your focus should be on maintaining good SEO practices to avoid your site from getting trapped by the sandbox next time. Make sure to do the best, and we believe you’ll be successful for sure in getting more traffic than ever before.

Five (05) Ways to Keep Your Site Safe From Google Sandbox

Below we have mentioned five ways that you can use to avoid Google Sandbox.

  • Always make sure that you are following best SEO practices
  • Always try to add high-quality links to your website
  • Always make sure to keep your website updated with latest and relevant content
  • Always keep updating the last modification tag on your web pages since it reflects Google that your site is being regularly updated
  • It is always a great idea to use robots.txt and sitemap.xml files on your website, since doing so make it easy to understand your website for Google crawlers and ultimately this will increase your chance of getting out of the sandbox earlier than expected

Remember doing everything perfectly still, doesn’t guarantee you that your website is going to be ranked well on the top.

Black Hat Rules For SEO

Let us tell you a little about Black Hat SEO. As the name suggests, these are the tactics that are used by people to manipulate search engines and get their website ranked amongst top webpages falsely.

Some typical examples of Black HAT SEO include word stuffing, sneaky redirects, links manipulation or automated content.

White Hat Rules For SEO

These are simple rules for following best SEO practices. These rules are used by web developers to make their site top ranked.

Although, following White Hat SEO rules are more difficult as compared to those Black Hat SEO rules but their results are long-lasting.

Conclusion

Since now you know what it is all about Google Sandbox and SEO practices; therefore we would like to suggest you practice best SEO rules always to keep the quality of research up to the mark for everyone.

Following White Hat Rules will surely prevent your site from getting trapped by the Google Sandbox, and soon you will see your site being ranked amongst top websites.

If you have yet to hire an SEO expert to help you optimize your site for search engines and you’re faced alone with data from your analytics tools, don’t fret.

This guide will teach you how to use Google’s Search Console to get you the data that you need for boosting your SEO which in turn will mean more success for your business.

Checking Spam with Google Webmaster

Option 1

Under Search Traffic, click on Search Analytics and loom at the list of queries.

search traffic_search analytics under Google search console

Look for keywords that are in no way related to your niche.

If you find several queries that are unrelated, it’s a good indicator that your site may have been spammed.

Option 2

Under Search Traffic again, go to “Links to your Site” and look at “Who links the most“.

search traffic_links to your site under Google search console

Observe any URLs that don’t belong as again, this is a strong sign that someone is spamming your site by linking it back with a site that’s not related to your site niche.

Option 3

Once again, under Search Traffic, go to “Links to your Site” and then to “How your data is linked“.

search traffic_links to your site_how your data is linked under Google search console

It will show the list of anchor texts with the links that point back to your site.

Anchor text usually describes what a page is all about. If it is irrelevant to your niche, it means you are under spam attack.

Gather these URLS and organize them in one Excel sheet.

It can take a long time to recover from a spam attack but if you act now, you’ll be able to restore your site sooner and avoid any penalties from Google.

Begin by contacting the owners of the sites where the links are found and request for a link removal.

Several tools allow you to automate the process but experts found that the best, most effective way to doing this is manually.

It allows you to personalize the message and connect with the web owner in a more human way which makes them more likely to remove the link without qualms.

If they refuse to cooperate or are unresponsive, you can send a disavow request to Google.

Google takes a while to sift through these requests but the sooner you send it, the sooner they too will be able to disassociate these unwanted backlinks from your site.

If you find the disavow process a little complicated, you can always take advantage of SEO services.

Write Better Blogposts with Google Webmaster

This time we will determine your best blogposts and the queries that got your users to those post.

Step 1

Under Search Traffic, select Search Analytics, mark:

  • clicks;
  • impressions;
  • pages.

search traffic_search analytics_clicks-impressions-pages under Google search console

You will then find a list of pages that are arranged according to popularity.

Step 2

Click on one of the blogposts under pages and then select CTR:

search traffic_search analytics_clicks-impressions-CTR under Google search console

Now you can view the average position and average CTR of this specific blogpost.

This should help you determine whether your blogpost needs improvement or not.

Step 3

Now mark just the radio button on Queries which will show you the list of queries users typed in the search engine that led them to your page (click to enlarge the following screenshot):

search traffic_search analytics_clicks-impressions-CTR-queries under Google search console

Looking at this will give you an idea of what your audiences are looking for.

Gather queries with great CTR or click through rate and utilize those as ideas for your next blogpost.

Learning how to get star ratings in Google search results is not as difficult as it sounds.

Try doing one of these two and craft an improvised strategy based on the data and impressions that you have gathered.

stars review on Google search results

Don’t forget to continually perform these steps if you want to maintain your place in search engine rankings.

SEO is dynamic and what might be good in Google’s eyes today may not be good for your site in the future.

We suggest a monthly checkup and regular tweaks until you get something that works best for your business.

According to a research by Outbrain, search engines do convey 300% of traffic more than social media to content sites.

So how can you let Google know that your website exists?

The most common tactic is to focus your attention on the quality of your writing. But the content itself is not able to make you climb the “top 10” of the search results. You should seriously consider link building.

Together with link building, you should think about optimizing your blog for search engines. This could have a significant effect as regards the rise of your site in the SERPs.

But what link building means?

“It’s the process of attracting and establishing direct links to your site, which will help reaching the highest peaks in the search engines and ensuring organic traffic to your site.”

What are some effective techniques for building natural links, without being penalized?

Google always updates its algorithms and changes the cards on the table by launching updates as the “Panda” or “Penguin”, which can penalize your site for using unnatural ways to get backlinks.

During my online experience, I learned many SEM strategies that can benefit your business.

I chose the 10 best strategies I’ve implemented. Each of them has been a great success. Here they are.

1. Search Websites with Broken Links

This method takes a long time and is scalable. You should have a lot of patience to find those links that give the 404 error.

It is a really expensive tactic in terms of time and efforts.

For example, there are many companies that have changed the name of their brand, so the links have been deleted. I believe that this tactic deserves to be exploited, despite the energies used to get these killer links.

How to find broken links?

You can use these search strings on Google to look for some:

  • “your keywords” + “recommended sites”
  • “your keywords” + “useful links”
  • “your keywords” + “resources”
  • “your keywords” + “useful tools”

So, when you’ll check the pages, look whether all the links work well.

When you find any broken link, you can immediately contact the website owner and inform him about them.

I would recommend using the extension of Chrome Check My Links, which will help you find all the broken links (highlighted in red).

2. Replace Dead Links in Wikipedia

Have you noticed any “dead links” on the pages of Wikipedia?

They are not removed immediately. On the contrary, a note will be added in the bottom of the page with the “dead link”. This will give you the opportunity to replace it with yours.

You can find them with this search string:

site: wikipedia.org + keyword + “dead link”

dead link example on Wikipedia

In alternative, you can use WikiGrabber to search all of these links on Wikipedia.

After finding them, you will need to create the content from scratch on your site and replace the link on Wikipedia with yours.

3. Scoop.it

It is one of my favorite methods to get some good links in 10 minutes. It’s a great community of content curation where users can gather interesting content on the web and publish it in a magazine format.

Many of the pages on Scoop.it have a high authority. This type of publications attracts attention through the use of social networks.

How can you do it?

Choose the category of the post you want to share, search the Scoop.it page more related to it and recommend your content.

In my experience, 50% of users will accept it, which means that in 10 minutes of your work, you’ve got quite a lot of quality backlinks.

4. Monitor the Backlinks of Competitors

It might seem disturbing to monitor the backlinks of your “competitors”, but I can assure you that you will get great ideas on how to increase the quality of your links.

Prior to monitoring them, you will need to discover your most formidable competitors in the SERPs.

I use RankTrackr. It’s a paid tool, but you can start with a free trial. In alternative, use this extension of Chrome.

As soon you’ll recognize their keywords and ranking, you can use Ahrefs to get a list of backlinks related to those sites.

ahref analysis overview for smartpassiveincome_com

Checks made weekly or monthly will help you stand at attention to see what SEO tactics your competitors are using to gain more links and devise a plan on how to reproduce them as much as possible.

5. Make the Most Out of Infographics

Creating and publishing infographics is one of the most powerful and effective link building strategies in the modern SEO, falling into that niche called “Trend Marketing”. Visual.ly is a leader in this field.

Many people stay away from this method, as creating a professional infographic may cost a fortune.

But you can achieve it easily with the following resources:

I personally use the first one, as it’s simple to use and has various themes (included free ones).

You may also want to look for freelancers on oDesk who can do the job at an affordable price.

There are some points you need to keep in mind:

  • only include data from real sources
  • add the link of your site in the generated code (probably someone will use it on his site and you can take advantage of excellent backlinks)
  • use an attractive design
  • be brief and do not confuse the facts in the text
  • limit the infographic size to 1500 pixels high
  • use statistics to make it more interesting
  • share it via social networks

To get a real return of backlinks and visibility of your brand, you will need to give the opportunity to other sites and blogs to post and share your infographic.

6. Inverted Guest Blogging

The idea is to look for guest bloggers who can write significant content for your website.

This works in a completely innovative way. You don’t have just to look for bloggers who have time to write a post. The main idea is to build good relationships with the most influential bloggers. Ask them to contribute at your place.

What are the benefits of “reversed” guest blogging?

  • It is an effective mechanism to build relationships
  • The post can be shared by influential blogger on their social media channels
  • It’s a great way to earn links by the shares of the invited authors
  • You have plenty of control on content

You should find out the goals of this strategy, defining the subject of the articles to be written and how long you want the invited guest to contribute to your blog.

It’s easy to make a list of the influential people within your niche to work with.

Just make the proper research, begin to invite them and talk about this opportunity.

7. Online Discussions

The online business not only requires building quality links, but also valuable relationships with customers.

Be sure to monitor the activity of your potential customers and control what they do online.

They would normally gather in groups to discuss specific topics on forums and blogs. Try to monitor all their moves. You can use Yahoo answers, forums, Facebook groups, etc.

You can also use Google Alerts and add your keywords to track down any reference to your brand or your industry in general.

screenshot example of creating alerts with Google Alerts

Remember: try to be helpful and friendly, not pushy. It may take time, but you will be rewarded.

You have the opportunity to earn a great authority on the web. Users will be able to know you and follow you.

8. Reviews of Bloggers

The reviews on products, software and services are one of the best ways to get good backlinks on a large scale, especially for ecommerce sites.

But how do you capture the attention of bloggers?

You can start by offering something for free so they can do a review on their sites, or think about a budget to set for this purpose.

It is a fairly intensive process that takes time: you need to find bloggers, contact them, send the products, wait for the review and eventually send a reminder email.

Try to find webmasters in your niche or industry. If you sell a specific product or information that help people to learn something like, for example, “ways of making money online”, you should use the strings as “how to make money online,” “earn money at home”, etc.

You’ll get a list of bloggers who can be filtered depending the authority of their sites.

Now you have to reach them by using their contact form or simply by email, and, with a couple of compliments, make the fateful proposal.

Be sure of what you’re writing. Check spelling and grammar errors. Do not be too pushy.

I remind you not to not ask them to just post your link and review. Simply put them in a position to decide on your product.

9. Give Feedbacks

It is a simple mechanism to obtain a backlink.

When you are using products related to yours or taking advantage of services related to your market, you can offer a feedback to be published on their sites (in their “testimonials” page, for example).

example of backlink gained with a testimonial

You would do something that is beneficial to both sides: you get an important backlink and they earn a feedback on their product.

10. Quality Links from Citations

Monitoring your brand is important, as you know, but there are often times when people talk about you and your brand without entering any link.

It’s natural (in the end, people are lazy).

But you could contact them asking about placing a link to your site within the discussion that has begun. In the end, it does not cost anything and people will do it gladly if you are nice and polite.

Follow this tactic and you’ll get many quality backlinks.

Summary

Here I mentioned my favorite tactics to get backlinks.

Take some time to digest them and see how they work.

If you know any other tactic, I will be more than happy to listen to your suggestions within the comments.

Have you ever experienced a Google penalization on one of your websites?

Well, I hope you don’t. Because recovery can be quite hard, most of all after Panda and Penguin.

Following the official content guidelines will “theoretically” ensure you to avoid any penalties, but you know (most of all if you are blogging since some years) that respecting all the rules is not that easy.

Here is a list of 10 blog habits to help you being penalized by Google, so be sure to avoid them!

1. Server Downtime or Slow Response

Avoid this like a plague: the search engine spiders do not like to miss a bit in the web.

So pay attention to the response time of the server where you hosted your blog.

I use HostGator and I have a dedicated server. Yes, it may cost a bit, but my online activities have expanded to a certain level that I needed to make the upgrade.

The response time of Hostgator servers is very low: 0,1-0,2s and I’m very satisfied on uptime:

screenshot of server monitoring with Pingdom

I use Pingdom to monitor in real time my sites, so I receive an email with a notification if my server goes offline.

As you can see in the image (FillMyMoneyBox is one of my niche blogs) server is up since 2 months straight.

2. Duplicate Content

Another thing that you must avoid, as it is very negative for your positioning in the SERPs.

The time that you invest in producing great content, will be repaid later with visits and traffic over time.

Copy and paste does not pay, absolutely. Now even less, given that Google severely penalizes those who do.

Be sure to use these free tools to check if your content is copied and how to protect it.

3. Low Outbound Links Quality

A high quality website does not link to sites of low quality or even worse, to spam sites.

Be sure to control not also the links included in your articles, but also the ones in the comments.

You may want to use sometimes the “rel=”nofollow” tag for the outbound links in your content that you do not want the search engines will count.

I suggest you a wonderful plugin to manage the links in your articles: “Outbound Link Manager”.

It is a fantastic free plugin that let you monitors outbound links in your posts and pages, easily allowing you to add or remove a nofollow tag, update anchor texts, or remove links altogether (in a bulk).

Also on all your archived posts, that is pretty amazing (and save you a lot of time from doing it by yourself).

outbound link manager plugin screenshot

4. Duplicate Title Tags or Meta Tags

For a proper on-page SEO optimization your title tag, description tag and keywords tag must be unique for each page of your website.

I suggest you to use properly Google Webmaster Tools.

You can monitor the status of your site, like the research queries, sitemap, errors of server, backlinks and you may also check suggestions of pages with duplicated or missing meta tags that you should modify or improve.

5. Using Link Farm

You should also avoid link farm. Link popularity is fairly built, although it is challenging.

Just think to what happened to BuildmyRank: the big overwhelming majority of their network has been deindexed by Google.

So building your own private blog network is quite risky, think hard before doing it!

6. On-page Spam Techniques : Keywords Stuffing or Hidden Text

This is quite an old technique, but of course is still bad for your SEO.

This system was abused years ago from many webmasters. The practice consisted in adding a lot of keywords at the end of the page, hiding the text, camouflaging (cloaking) it with the same color of the page, so the visitors will not see it, but it was considered by search engines crawlers.

These techniques, if discovered, will lead to penalties or even the exclusion/ban of your website from search engines.

Google has become quite good in checking these techniques.

7. Do Not Create a Sitemap

A XML sitemap is a file that lists all the pages of your site and gives search engines other important information, as for instance how often you add content, which is helpful in getting new pages crawled quickly.

A sitemap is too important for a blog for neglecting its creation and you should be surprised in discover that many sites still do not have it.

Creating a sitemap on your WordPress site is really easy: I use  “Google XML Sitemaps plugin. Just install it and follow the instructions.

Let Google and other search engines know that you have it, using Google Webmaster Tools.

8. Your URL is Too Long

When you choose a domain name for your new blog, you should avoid long URLs, if possible.

Avoid hyphens, dashes or numbers, as the name may look “spammy”.

Try to take an easy to remember name, choose a dot.com when available (or at least .net or .org), pick a name easy to type, avoid copyright infringement and include your keywords in the name.

9. Weight of the Page More Than 100 Kbytes

Many spiders stop reading a page when the amount of bytes reaches a given value. This value is typically around 100 Kbytes.

Moreover, people on internet are “lazy” and they do not want to wait more than 8-10 seconds to display a page or a website. 3-4 seconds is already a high amount of time!

And as you surely know, the loading speed is a factor that Google consider in search engine results.

I use a cache plugin on most of my sites. It improves the speed and user experience of your site. Add browser, page, object and database caching as well as minify and content delivery network (CDN) to WordPress.

Check the speed score of your site with this free tool offered from Google: Developers.google.com/pagespeed and receive suggestions on how you can improve your blog.

google page speed checker result for nopassiveincome

10. Using Flash or Javascript

There are still problems of proper placement of content created with Flash. Websites created in Flash are not search engine friendly.

The spiders have trouble reading also codes in JavaScript. So, use the HTML. The same goes for Ajax technology for Java applets and ActiveX controls.

Have you found something that can help you improve your site?

Do you have some other suggestions?

Please share your views in the comments below, thanks!

If you run your own website or blog, then I’m sure that you will be interested to learn more about SEO.  It is, after all, one of the best ways to drive traffic to a site.

Now if you search online, there is a lot of conflicting advice on the subject – some of it good and some of it bad.

The only tips that you should be following are the ethical SEO tips that actively help your site, without abusing the system.

SEO Has A Bad Name

For some people, SEO has a pretty poor reputation online.  It can be seen as a way to somehow “cheat” the system or gain an unfair advantage over rivals.

This isn’t helped by the fact that there are some people (a small minority) that do try to abuse the system to further their own cause.

This has led to some to even suggest that search engine optimization be called something different.

It Can Actually Be Good, When Used Right

The simple fact is that SEO can actually be used ethically when done right.  Search engine optimization is simply a way of getting your content to the most people possible.

Search engines are the number one method of driving traffic to a site, so it makes sense to make the most of them.

People have given a bad name to SEO by using negative techniques (or Black-Hat SEO) that abuse search engine rules, such as; keyword stuffing, invisible text, doorway pages, etc.

They do this to try to boost their rankings quickly, but the joke is on them as these methods only tend to work for the very short term, if at all!

Thankfully, Google and others are cracking down on websites that abuse these rules, which is great for the rest of us that pride ourselves for following the rules.

You have to remember that search engine optimization is a long term strategy for your site.  There is no “quick” way or “short cut” to success, so you are better off optimizing your site for long term results.

So What Is Ethical SEO

Ethical search engine optimization is a term to describe all the good techniques and tips that you can use that are not in breach of search engine rules (or White-Hat SEO).

There is nothing wrong with optimizing your posts and pages to rank higher, as long as you do it right.

All search engines want to do is provide the best quality content to their users, as this is how they make money.  To do this, they need to look at sites (by crawling them) and establish what a post/page is about.

Optimizing your pages helps search engines to identify what your content is about, therefore enabling them to show it to the right people who are searching for it.

Seo Dice On Computer Shows Online Web Optimization

Ethical SEO Tactics

So now we know that ethical SEO is the right way to go, how do you go about optimizing your posts?

One of the key aspects of SEO is keyword placement.

Placing keywords and keyphrases in certain places of your site helps search engines to identify what your post is about. This is called ‘on-page SEO’ and can refer to things like;

  • Page Titles
  • Meta Descriptions
  • Subtitles (H1, H2, H3 Tags)
  • URL Address
  • Image Alt Tags
  • Internal & External Link Anchor Text (and the links themselves)

Whilst these are all good places to include your keywords/keyphrases, it is VITALLY important that you don’t overdo it.  Don’t place too many keywords in these places, as you risk keyword stuffing, which is bad!

A good rule of thumb is that keywords should not exceed about 3% of your overall article.  Think of your keywords as simple sign posts that help tell people what your post is about.

That way, you don’t need to go overboard with using them.

A great WordPress plugin that you can use to help you monitor your keyword density and other on-page SEO is the ‘WordPress SEO by Yoast’ plugin.

Now SEO is not all about keyword placement.  Search engines also look at things like post frequency, social media interaction, and PageRank.

But for the purpose of this post, this is what I will be focusing on.

It’s All About Being Relevant

Another good ethical rule to remember is that things should always be relevant to your content.  Whatever keywords, keyphrases, internal links, external links, videos, images, etc. that you include in your posts, they should be relevant to what you have just written.

For example, if I were to write an article about a certain actor, let’s say Matt Damon, then linking to reviews of movies that he has been in would be totally relevant, therefore justifiable.

If on the other hand I started including links to some car selling site, that wouldn’t be very relevant.

Search engines look at the terms, phrases and links that you use in a post to see if they are all connected in some way.

If they aren’t (as in the example that we just looked as) then they may suspect some dodgy behaviour going on on your site.

If you think about it logically though, you only want to be providing the best quality content to your visitors anyway, so why would you use/link to unrelated things.

Summary

Ethical search engine optimization isn’t too hard to get your head around.  Just remember to follow search engine guidelines and not abuse the system.

It can actually be more beneficial to concentrate solely on writing for your readers, as ultimately it is them that will determine whether your site is a success or not.

Plan out a long-term SEO strategy for your site and work at optimizing your site ethically.  It is much better to work with Google rather than against them!

What other ethical SEO tips do you use that I haven’t mentioned here?  Do you even do SEO on your site and if not, why?

Many people think that after every Google update, the rules change. You’ve probably heard “this works”, “that works”, “this doesn’t work”, and so on. Believe it or not, the main rules for everyone who understands the SEO game are almost the same. Typically, Google penalize the people who don’t know how to do SEO correctly. They penalize duplicate content, low quality content, private blog networks and so on. Every experienced SEO expert knows that these things are not ethical. But these SEO experts that have optimized their sites the right way, still rank high on Google.

on-page factors

What is the right way to think ?

Just think what Google want from us. They want only one thing – quality content for their users. That is. So for example, if you rank a site with low quality content, Google will find this after some time. So, if you for example rank a site with low quality content Google will find this after time. Google penalize sites with low quality content, and sites that have been using unethical tactics for fast ranking which they don’t deserve. If you create quality content, and if you use only white hat tactics, you won’t have any problems, no matter how many updates your site will see.

In this article, I’m going to explain you how to optimize your sites the right way.If you follow my instructions, you probably won’t have any problems.

Quality content – the most important On-Page Factor

Why is the quality of your content so important, and how will Google see that? Actually, Google is not a person. They can not read content, they can not understand is any article important, informative or interesting. They can only see things like the number of keywords, the keyword density etc, which is not enough. So they use other factors to see the quality of your site – Off-page factors. So, if you have a high quality site, Google will be able to detect that based on Off-Page factors, they use.In practice your On-page optimization affect your Off-page optimization.Let’s discuss how it works.

Here is what will happen if your site content is quality.

First

People will start to link to your site from different places, like forums, blogs and sites. If someone creates a directory of sites in your niche, guess who will be there – you; because you have quality content and all site owners will like you. If someone asks something in any forum and the answer may be found on your site, people may reply with a link to your site. Bloggers will love to link back to you.So your site will start getting links naturally.Google will see that.

Second

People will start sharing your content at different social media sites. That is why it is important for you to place as many “Like” buttons on your site as possible. Google will count them. They will also count the ratio between your number of likes and your total visitors. So, if your content is quality, you will get more likes. It’s not a big secret that the number of likes has become such an important factor after the Penguin Update.

Third

They also analyze the users behaviour. They can see how long people stay on your site, how many users visit your site, and how many of them visit it again. It is obvious that if you have quality content, you will have better results, which in turn will affect your ranking.

We will never be able to understand exactly how Google work, but we know what they want to find – the best sites. So the best way to get a high ranking is to write high quality content. If the algorithm changes after time, the affected sites will be those with low quality content. All sites and blogs that have quality content will be on Google.

Here is an example of one of my blogs, about surveys for money. It ranks at first several pages of Google for this competitive term – surveys for money. And believe me, it is almost without any back links. I just create quality content articles where I teach people how to make money from paid online surveys. I only offer free surveys there, so people love my blog, and Google love it too!

For me, the most important On-page factor is the quality of my content.

Now, let’s talk about other factors.

Must read: 8 Helpful Tips, How To Promote Your Blog

Keywords in title tag.

You probably know that putting your keywords in your title is one of the most important factors. Some people say your title has to contain your keywords at the beginning or at the end of it. For me, it is almost the same. You won’t see any big difference in your ranking.

Here is one thing that Google has changed after the Penguin. They just started to prefer naturally looking title tags, instead of manipulative ones. What do I mean by that?

See again my blog, and the first post here:

How To Find Legitimate Online Surveys for Money Sites

That way, I can rank for keywords like “surveys for money”, “legitimate surveys”, “surveys for money sites”, and more. This is a natural title.

Here is what I mean by manipulative :

Surveys for money – Legitimate surveys – Paid online surveys

After the Penguin, I can say Google would prefer the first one, because it is natural.

Keyword density

The next On-page factor we will discuss is keyword density. First of all, let me explain to you what keyword stuffing is. This is when you repeat your keywords many times. Believe me, there is no need to do that. Google has become much more smarter and you can get penalized for that. There is no need to have keyword density over 1%. Yes, you heard right! With keywords in the title and 1% keyword density, you can rank very well after the Penguin. Several years ago the perfect keyword density was about 3.5 – 4%. These days are gone. Believe it or not, Google do not care about your keyword density. They just try to understand what your site is about, not how many times they see your keywords in the text. If you want to, you can increase your density to over 1%, but the point is to spread your keywords naturally in the text. Create your content so it looks as natural as possible.

Total number of keywords

Several years ago people wrote articles between 300-400 words. These days we can see that Google slightly increased the required numbers. Now, many SEO experts suggest 400-600 words per article. If you create 700-1000 words, your page will rank even higher.

Sure, a properly written article with targeted keywords in strategic places can help you rank in search engine results pages (SERPs).

But do you know that your website’s content should not only consist of text. It must also contain pictures for more appeal.

Then again, this is not the only purpose of placing photos. You can increase the likelihood of driving traffic to your site through these.

“How”, you may ask. The answer is simple—optimise them for Google Images. This way, you can rank for related queries.

google images

So how does it work? Check out these ideas.

1. Place keywords

Like on-page optimisation, you need to place the right terms in the following:

  • Filename – You cannot expect the spiders to spot your content if its name consists of digits and/or alphabet letters such as DG1234.jpg. Generally, the users look for info by typing in a word or phrase in the search box. You are more likely to rank in the top rows (given that Google shows one page for the results) by creating a filename such as google-image-search.jpg or seo-tips.jpg.
  •  Alt attribute – The main reason you require an alternative text is to help the spiders with easy indexing and crawling of relevant words, especially since they cannot detect image content. When you place keywords or key phrases (with each word separated by a dash), you have a greater likelihood of ranking high in the results.

On the other hand, it allows you to provide people with visual impairment a chance to understand your content. How? The screen reader (software application) interprets the information you added to the photos.

  • Description – While your pictures get along just fine without this, the users will have more idea what your content offers if you come up with a brief and illustrative phrase.

2. Use JPG as filename extension

According to an optimisation website that experimented on various extensions, JPG images performed well in SERPs. Additionally, the administrators stated that this outcome was maybe because you can compress the photos to lessen page load time and that JPG is readable by all browsers.

The site owner also suggested that you stick with 1-60 kilobyte since anything beyond this tended to slow down the page’s loading speed.

3. Publish unique, fresh, and high-quality pictures

Doesn’t this tip say enough already?

Well, let me elaborate its importance. By adding your content with such images, your webpage looks different from the billions of other pages online.

So can you be original?

Simple, choose those which you have taken or created yourself. You can get ideas from your Pinterest account or you can use Photoshop. However, you have to remember that this strategy is mostly applicable if you are blogging.

If you have an e-commerce website, you can take pictures of your products or you can hire a professional photographer to provide you with high-quality shots.

As a bonus method, you can use Google Trends to find out which photos rank well in search results.

4. Upload several images

I’m guessing you re-read this statement, right? And you are probably thinking that I might be wrong.

However, I am not.

Remember the SEO site I was telling you a while ago, its team also discovered that a page with plenty of photos performed better in SERPs compared to those with one or two. So, it goes to show that more is preferable.

As a note though, you must ensure that you follow the first three tips to boost the likelihood of ranking. What is more, take advantage of lazy load or super cache if you use WordPress as your blogging platform.

Final Insights

What do you think? Are these tactics easy?

Now, you have to know that these are not the only things you can do to generate traffic through Google Images. If you ideas apart from the ones I have given, feel free to share it with us.

Few days ago (on 25th of April) Google Penguin attacked. A lot of pages was affected by this new update of algorithm. Matt Cuts commented here , that it’s “another step to reward high-quality sites”. He also mentioned about unnatural linking, as a reason of some filtrs or bans.

But unfortunately it’s not true at all. There is a lot of brilliant websites, which were hurt by this algorithm change and complying with White Hat SEO. What’s more, for some queries, TOP 10 of Google’s SERPs is full of spammy websites or sites with very low quality.

So, what can we do, to avoid in the future drastic drop in traffic from organic search in Google and strenghten your website?

One of the most important things (except brilliant website of course) is having a lot of good quality links.

After some days of Google Penguin rule, and short investigation, we came to conclusion, that good quality links aren’t links only from pages with high Page Rank. It’s more complicated these days…

Your linking schema should looks natural and have a lot of types of links pointing to your site.

Below is a list of different types of links, grouped into 5 groups.

I) Follow/unfollow links

1. Follow (dofollow) links. Construction of the link cause, that some part of websites’ Page Rank is passed to your site
2. Unfollow links (Page Rank is not passed to linked pages)

If you only have dofollow links, it really looks unnatural. You should get some unfollow links to your site. They don’t pass Page Rank to your site, but they pass Trust Rank.

II) Links on different places on linking site

3. Links inside articles
4. Links below articles
5. Links in sidebar
6. Links in footer
7. Links in your bio below your article
8. Comments below post or article
9. Links in advertise/sponsor box
10. Links in conversation box/posts on forums
11. Links in menu (be careful with them – Google algorithm is watching them very rigorously)
12. 301 links from other sites (so called “redirect link”)

If all of your links are only from footer, it’s strange. Isn’t it?

Google penguin

III) Links from different types of websites or online tools and products

In Internet you can get links for your site from many different types of websites. Please make sure, that your linking schema isn’t dominated with only one of them…

13. Guest posts on blogs in your niche
14. Press releases
15. Posts on forums
16. Articles on articles directories
17. Articles on professional websites
18. Question-answers services (for example Yahoo answers)
19. Free accounts on blogging platforms like WordPress.com20. Your Affiliates who promote your products
21. Links inside ebooks
22. Links inside newsletters
23. Links inside emails
24. Blog carnivals sites
25. Social networks (like Facebook, LinkedIn)
26. Social promotion sites (Stumble upon, Reddit )
27. Sites with your favorites  – Pinterest
28. Sites with shared photos and videos (Flickr, Youtube)
29. Discussion groups http://groups.google.com
30. Networks for bloggers blogs.com
31. Links inside tweets
32. Links in RSS feeds
33. Your other, private sites

IV) Links with different construction of the link (different anchors, different titles, etc.)

At these days Google pay high attention to anchors. It’s very important, to have links with various anchors pointing not only to main page, but also to pages deeper in your website. Following points  are examples, what you can do with anchors on your links.

34. Your anchor is selected by you – “Passive income”
35. Your anchor is title of your website – “No passive income”
36. Your anchor is title of particular page – “Google Penguin attacked – 50 types of links to…”
37. Your main, very competitive anchor – for example, for this blog it may be “making money
38. Words like: “here”, “link”, “click”, “push”, “see” are poor anchors from SEO perspective. But your site should have links with anchor like these!
39. Your anchor is address of your website (https://nopassiveincome.com)
40. Your anchor is address of particular page (https://nopassiveincome.com/google-penguin-attacked-50-types-of-links-to-strengthen-your-website )
41. Links with/without additional title (for selecting title for you link you may follow points 34-40)
42. Shortened links http://bit.ly/JHARA3 are also links, which you should have
43. And finally, graphical links. Maybe they are weaker than text links, but they also should appears in your “portfolio of links”

V) Offline links

If you have a lot of money or you are treating your business very seriously, you can place your links outside the Internet 🙂 Of course deep linking is almost impossible, but address of your domain also is a link.

Some of “offline links” ideas are below:

44. Links in newspapers and/or paper magazines
45. Links showed on TV
46. Links “spoken” in radio
47. Links in outdoor advertisements (for example on billboards)
48. Links on your business card
49. Links on leaflets
50. Links promoted during conferences, presentations, professional trainings

And what do you think about it? Do you prefer some type of links, or not? Or maybe you know another type of link, which may help to kill Google Penguin?

How to make money online – this question is one of the most important questions of beginner’s entrepreneurs or bloggers.

Basing on my almost five years of experience as an online entrepreneur, I’ll show you 10 ways to make money online – 9 established and very useful and one very “hot” and new – Google Affiliate Ads for bloggers.

Each of these points may be implemented successfully by you – it’s not black magic or something for “selected”.  Of course there is a lot of work with all of them, and at these days your online activities needs a lot of time and consistency (for example my first website about financial products needed almost 2 years to become profitable).

So, read carefully 🙂

10 points, how to make money online:

1. Showing Ads On Your Site

The easiest way for monetizing your blog or site is by advertising. There are a lot of possibilities of it, in almost every possible category and topic.

There is a lot of types of online advertisement. Some of them are mixture or different types.

Below you can find most common types of advertisement:

    1. PPC (Pay Per Click) advertisement

This method is very simple – you earn money, when someone click on ads on your site. Firstly of course you must sign in into one or more of ads networks. Most popular service provider for this type of ads is Google AdSense. It’s accessible for everyone, it’s easy to set up and start earning a lot of money. But in some business areas, there is to less of advertisers, and your earnings may be very little. In this case, you may choose, for example, Chitika instead.

    1. CPM, CPT (Cost Per Mille, Cost Per Thousand) advertisement

This type of advertisement is paid per impression. That means that the advert is paid pro thousand of impressions. Simplifying it – when CPM for ads on your site is 2$, and this ad will be shown on your website 50 000 times, you will earn 100$ (because 2$*50=100$)

    1. Banners (graphical) ads, text (or intext) links, video ads

Some ads networks are specialized in one type of medium. For example Google Adsense is contextual network, with almost all types of ads (at this time without intext ads). If you want to use intext ads on your side, Kontera is for you.

    1. Selling ad space directly to advertisers

When your site or blog has a big traffic, is in specific niche, or has great content, you may try to sell ad space by your own. Of course looking for someone, who want to advert directly on your site isn’t easy and quick job. It’s more engaging and time consuming. But on the other hand – it’s more profitable than participating in ads networks. See my advertising page here.

 2. Participating In Affiliate Marketing

This type of making money is accounted in CPA (Cost per Action) model. And action, in most cases, is defined as a sell.

That means you will earn money, when someone will buy product or order a service via your referral link or recommendation

Commissions may be very various, but most common is a percentage of the sale price. Standard is 5-10%, but for some products, commission is as high as 20-50%

Most profitable online niches are:

    1. Financial products (mortgages, loans, bank accounts, bank deposits, Forex accounts)
    2. Products related with making money online. It’s very wide niche. We can find here hosting providers (for example Hostgator or  Bluehost), tools for keyword research, like Market Samurai or Traffic Travis, or other plugins and tools related with this topic
    3. Products and services for health and beauty (tutorials, diets, exercises, pills 🙂 etc.)
    4. Products and services in tourism branch (hotel and fly reservations, trips, car rental services)
    5. XXX branch

Below you can find 4 services, with a lot of affiliates programs for you:

ShareASale

Clickbank

Commision Junction

Amazon Associates

3. Selling Online Your Own Product

Instead of marketing someone else’s products, services or websites, you can earn money selling your own product. In most cases it’s more profitable for you, than showing advertises or even selling someone’s products. But of course there is also the other side of the coin – you must spend time not only on promoting, but also on preparing, updating and supporting your product or service.

If you have no ideas, what could be your product, below you can find some most popular “self-made” product ideas:

    1. Books and ebooks
    2. Photos, graphics and videos (you can sell them for example on Fotolia or on Istockphoto)
    3. Tutorials and guides about specific topics
    4. Applications for PCs, iPhones, tablets, etc.
    5. Tools, plugins and themes for WordPress

4. Mini Sites (also called Niche Sites)

For some money makers this is the most important stream of their incomes. They set up tens or hundreds of mini sites, advertise them, and are earning a lot of money from them. Earnings from single site are very small – it may be for example one dollar a day. But if you have for example 200 of minisites, you earn about 200 $ a day. Monthly it’s 6 000$ – it’s not to be sneezed at!

And some of niche sites may grow big and earn alone hundreds of dollars. If you are interested in this topic, please visit this site (owned by Pat Flynn) about Niche Site Duel

 5. Making Paid Reviews Of Other Products Or Websites

If you are a good writer and like preparing reviews of products or other things, you may try to make it for money!

In most cases, amount of money you will get in exchange for your review, depends on 4 factors:

-areas of interest of your blog

-reviewed product or service

-traffic on your blog (more the better)

-your possibility to write interesting and reliable reviews

There is a lot of websites, where you can find as well advertisers as bloggers, some of them you can find below:

SeedingUp

SponsoredReviews

LinkVehicle

PayPerPost.com

 6. Be Online Consultant

If you have an established opinion as an Expert in your field, you can stay Online Consultant. Of course you must have very good reputation in your area, and have some teaching skills. You will be paid for consultation, which means people will pay you for your extraordinary knowledge and creative ideas. Most often online consultants are paid per hours (between 10$ and 100$), but most recognized experts will charge you even 1 000$ pro one hour!

I don’t recommend this method, if you are a beginner blogger, specialist or entrepreneur. But if you want to try it, you must start building your credibility and reputation as soon as possible!

7. Preparing Paid Membership Site

It’s very similar way of earning money online to being online consultant – it’s basing on your (or someone else, who prepaid excellent material for your site) reputation and knowledge.

But as opposed to be online consultant, you share your knowledge and experience with more than one man at one time. What’s more, you produce almost all material for your members before starting this type of website.

Of course there are a lot of other differences – most important of them is price! Fees for accessing membership site are almost always fewer, than fees for hiring online consultant. And for this reason, membership sites must have many more customers, than online consultants

8. Selling Websites Or Domains

Some online entrepreneurs make a lot of money only by buying and selling websites or domains. They are looking for expired domains or underestimated websites, they are buying them, looking for someone who needs it, and they are selling it with profit. Most popular marketplace for doing it for existing websites is Flippa. For expired domains you can visit for example GoDaddy.com or Domains.com

9. Monetizing Your Email List

If you have thousands (or well-targeted hundreds) of subscribers on your email list, you can try to monetize it. Lot of companies, small businesses and even bloggers live basing on their email list.

How you can make money with it? You can for example:

    1. send sponsored email or newsletter
    2. send paid review of some products or websites to your subscribers
    3. prepare your own article with affiliate links and send it to your readers
    4. send info about your new, hot product

There is a lot of other ways of monetizing your email list, but there is also one, and only one thing, you should never send to your subscribers – SPAM!

 10. Google Affiliate Ads for bloggers

Some days ago appeared new way of earning money for bloggers – it’s Google Affiliate ads for bloggers. This possibility at this time is only for US bloggers, which are blogging on Blogger.com

To get started earning money with this program, you need only active AdSense account, and active blog on Blogger. If your blog category is adequate for advertisers, a new widget “Advertiser Products” will appear on your Earning Tab, where you can choose proper affiliate ad.

It can be text link, banner or even product image. More about it you can read here.

Unfortunatelly I’m not US blogger, so I couldn’t tell you, if it’s profitable or not.

There is only one more thing, which you must know before putting some points from the list into live – there is no passive income at all, and earning money without a lot of work is, in most cases, impossible. So, don’t be lazy and go blogging!

And what are your favorite ways to make money online? Please share them with us!

Disclosure – please note, that some of the links above are affiliate links and I earn a commission, when you buy something via them.
