Edit request MediaWiki:Gadget-libAPI.js

Hi, would somebody with interface-admin rights to add function below to MediaWiki:Gadget-libAPI.js (example diff). Function is for adding a method for removing already queued edits from queue. It would be used in Cat-a-lot.js.

abortPendingRequests: function() {
   apiRequestQueue = [];
},

--Zache (talk) 07:59, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lucas Werkmeister and Mdaniels5757: this is just pushing edit request up. After the edit is complete, I will update User:Zache/cat-a-lot-edit-libAPI.js to use abortPendingRequests() instead of capturing $.ajax for aborting the edit queue. Another humble request: could the statement, Since the JS edit API module by MW is a joke..., be removed from the header of MediaWiki:Gadget-libAPI.js as deprecated? (Example: diff) It may have been true in 2012, but now it feels like just unnecessary confrontation. --Zache (talk) 12:46, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Judging from MediaWiki talk:Gadget-libAPI.js this has been ✓ Done. Multichill (talk) 19:43, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hurricane Milton

Hi there, I protected File:Milton 2024 path.png earlier today as it's in use on the homepage of the English Wikipedia. There is now a newer version available at File:Milton 2024 track.png. Could some of you please watchlist that new file, and when that version gets updated, copy it across to the protected file so that the Wiki homepage is being kept up to date? Much appreciated. Schwede66 02:54, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No. Those two files aren't and should not be confused as duplicates. In fact, the first file uses the 2023 WPTC color scale, while the second one is merely an alternative by @Supportstorm. Please update the path using the new color scale. Tavantius (talk) 12:46, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As Tavantius stated they are two separate files. The track uses the legacy scale that was used on the English Wikipedia until 2023 when the majority of members voted to switched to an new scheme. Since there were thousands of tracks with the previous scheme and not all the language Wikipedia have elected to use the newer colors, the legacy scheme track files are still maintained by me. Supportstorm (talk) 13:20, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thanks for the clarification. Schwede66 13:43, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I said on the file talk page, the track should not have been used for the homepage, instead using a satellite. As stated above we use the new colors and still have to update it and needing to go through a tedious process just sounds unnecessary and actually damaging to the WikiProject Weather effort since now no one can update it very quickly without going through a tedious process which could take hours just for a response to be made. Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, but I would’ve preferred if the WikiProject was alerted before the decision was made. MarioProtIV (talk) 15:58, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66: I request you undo your action in light of you evident misunderstanding of how these images are used and what they represent.--Jasper Deng (talk|meta) 17:59, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Undo what action? Schwede66 18:01, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Undo your use of the track there.--Jasper Deng (talk|meta) 18:39, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible that I don't understand, but I'm guessing this is about fr:Sites mégalithiques des Pyrénées-Orientales, which does not seem an any way to be blocked. I have no idea what help is requested, particularly from a Commons administrator. - Jmabel ! talk 12:12, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oui . Dans le tableau de cet article est indiqué que la page est protégée .Dans la colonne illustration "image manquante" on ne peux pas insérer une photo pour compléter comme cela est possible sur les autres "sites mégalithiques "par exemple du Morbihan . JoelMLN

Please reconsider the uploads made by JoelMLN (talk · contribs). The user has been uploading lots of files without evidence of permission. As can be observed in the talk page, the user has had lots of problems. One notable feature is that they stated the source to be from a website while the actual photo was taken from a TripAdvisor review, indicating a misleading source. Add information on protected image

Hi, I have created an illustration Diagram of the Grand Hotel Brighton and the effects of the bomb, showing the position of key individuals at the time of the explosion. and now I would like to cross-add "Other versions" links between that and The Grand Hotel in Brighton 12 October 1984, following an IRA bomb attack. My problem is that the jpg image is protected so I can't add the information my self. The information I want added is: |other versions =<gallery>File:The Brighton bomb explosion.svg|Diagram of the Grand Hotel Brighton and the effects of the bomb, showing the position of key individuals at the time of the explosion.</gallery>.

Hope someone here can help, thanks. --please ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 15:54, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

TThey are not versions of the same image. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:44, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pigsonthewing That is depending on the definition of "Other versions". To me that means other images depicting the relativ same stuff and that is exactly what this illustration does Diagram of the Grand Hotel Brighton and the effects of the bomb, showing the position of key individuals at the time of the explosion. to the protected jpg. --please ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 16:49, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm inclined to agree with Andy here. The illustration is at a different angle from the photo. Other versions usually means "other versions of the same photograph or the same artwork." Abzeronow (talk) 17:10, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pigsonthewing @Abzeronow I don't know where you found this definition "other versions of the same photograph or the same artwork" because I can't find any definition which is commonly accepted here at commons, please link to it if it exist.
The only type of definition (but not really) is at Category:Other_versions_templates, "This category is for all "other versions" templates, that is, templates used to show alternate versions of a file (usually they go in the other_versions field in {{Information}})."
What the different angel has to do with it is nothing I understand.
The main subject with both these images is to show the The Brighton bomb and it affects.
  • So if we have different views on this, what do we do, who else can look at this, who has more knowledge about "Other versions"?
--please ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 15:37, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Andy and Abzeronow here. "Other versions" means "other versions of the same work", not "other images of the same thing." The mechanism for the latter, if needed, is a category. - Jmabel ! talk 16:24, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Abzeronow @Jmabel @Pigsonthewing So I will just drop this now, we just have different understandings, thanks. --please ping me-- Goran tek-en (talk) 18:10, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mass-message request for WLM-US 2024

Hello! I'm one of the organizers for Wiki Loves Monuments in the US. Could the following message be sent out to last year's participants inviting them to this year's event?

The body template already includes my signature, and the five tildes adds the timestamp. Thank you! ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 22:26, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
